My Failure Resume: A Story of 22 Failures Over 18 years

A few weeks ago, I was listening to a podcast episode where Pete from Do You Even Blog was talking about his failure resume. I loved this one. Hearing about the struggles people face to get to where they are is so humbling and humanizing – showing how much hard work it takes to get to where we are today.

I’ve seriously enjoyed writing on Minafi the last 4 months (which is how long I’m considering the site has been active for). It’s been one of the only times I’ve worked on a personal project that’s actually been viewed by other people, which just motivates me even more. In my career of side projects Minafi is an outlier; something I’ve stuck with long enough to be fun and get input on how to make it better.

Minimal Hurricane Preparation

A few weeks ago, we were hit by Hurricane Irma here in Orlando. For some storms, you’ll have up to a week to do all of your hurricane preparation, but it could be drastically less for other disasters. Recently hearing about the fires in California, and the sudden evacuation some faced, caused me to reflect on what our evacuation plan would look like. What are we prepared for today?

Seeking Mentors

I sometimes forget to look for mentors in an area I need help in – instead favoring books and learning myself. I know this to be something that can limit my progress forward on an area and one that I could stand to grow in. It occurred to me how many tips I could take and also how many mentors I’ve sought out in the past few years.

When Are You On Autopilot?

Are there times in your life when you are not in the moment and mindful of your surroundings? Parts of your daily routine where you let your mind drift away and wander? Areas of your day where you aren’t aware are low hanging fruit to improve and be more mindful.

Minafi 2017 Q3 Fall Investment Report

Written by Adam on October 9, 2017. Updated January 8, 2023.

At the end of every quarter, I’m hoping to share a snapshot of my current finances. This includes what I’m invested in, their values the change over time – all that good stuff. This is my first report, so if there’s something missing that would be interesting, feel free to ask!

There are things I’m intentionally not sharing. Since I don’t blog anonymously, sharing my income is something I’ve decided not to do. I will, however, share my savings rate, and probably mention my spending at some point. A clever sleuth could probably piece things together – but at least you’d have to work for it.

Mutual Funds vs ETFs: What’s the Difference Between Them?

These two terms are often thrown around interchangeably, but what is the difference between them? Most brokerages, like Vanguard, offer the same underlying assets as both mutual funds and ETFs – so which one is best for you?
